Altadena: Loma Alta Park Reopening

After months of recovery following the devastating Eaton Fire, Loma Alta Park in Altadena officially reopened to the public on May 17, 2025. The celebration was more than just a ribbon-cutting—it was a full-scale community event filled with family fun, local pride, and a few famous faces.

The newly enhanced park now features two Dodgers Dreamfields, a refurbished gymnasium, a brand-new senior center, and a public library, all designed to serve the diverse needs of Altadena’s community. Major League Baseball helped bring the magic with members of Jackie Robinson’s family and Dodgers pitcher Evan Phillips on hand to unveil the new Dreamfields. Meanwhile, across the park in the new gym, the L.A. Clippers hosted a basketball clinic for local youth, giving kids a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn skills from the pros.

Although the event was originally planned for the great outdoors, a bout of rain threatened to derail the festivities. But thanks to the event-planning expertise of The Wife of the Party, the transition indoors was seamless. The newly renovated gymnasium was quickly transformed into a vibrant pop-up festival space, and not a single smile was lost in the shuffle.

The Wife of the Party ensured the day remained magical for families by creating dedicated kids' activity zones that were nothing short of spectacular. The gym buzzed with excitement as children enjoyed a slime-making station where creativity got a little gooey, colorful art easels to let young imaginations run wild, a giant bubble zone that brought wide eyes and laughter, freshly spun cotton candy for sweet moments, face painting booths with lines of excited little ones, a mesmerizing puppet show, and a playful ball pit for the tiniest park-goers. Each area was designed with intention, offering hands-on experiences that turned a rainy day into a memorable celebration. DJ Herick was on the turntables to bring favorite melodies to the crowd.

The reopening of Loma Alta Park marks a milestone in Altadena's recovery journey. From fire-scorched grounds to a vibrant, multi-generational space for connection, recreation, and joy, the transformation is a testament to resilience and community spirit.

The event itself was a reflection of that same spirit—bringing together families, athletes, civic leaders, and dedicated organizers like The Wife of the Party who turned challenges into opportunities and helped create a day the community will remember for years to come.
