"A Taste of Soul" Activation for Destination Crenshaw

This fall, we assisted Destination Crenshaw in recreating the cult-classic dance show Soul Train to mark the opening of the Los Angeles County Metro Rail system’s K Line. At the Taste of Soul 2022 Festival in the neighborhood of Crenshaw, we helped to highlight upcoming exhibitions and projects, as well as what Soul Train did for the Black community of Los Angeles. Guests were invited to dance, sing, play fun games, and share favorite songs from the Soul Train era. Many of us can remember the weekend morning show featuring gorgeous people, dynamic lighting, memorable attire, and boy, the way those amazing dancers moved smoothly down that Soul Train line. It was good stuff!

We made neon pillars, affixed disco balls to the ceiling of each station, and placed floral arrangements of birds of paradise and roses in front of each colorful setup. The Crenshaw community came out! They danced, sang, and played trivia on a five-foot magnetic Soul Train Scrabble board. Such a fun experience!
