Oh Ship! It's Logan's Pirate Party

Our long-time client, Sarah Stage, hired us to celebrate her son, Logan’s, 3rd birthday with a pirate-themed celebration. Rather than have an ordinary pirate concept, we wanted to step outside the box a bit with the color scheme and how we presented the décor elements. Think: Dark-hued pampas grass set in aged vases, lots of gilt skeletons, deep red florals, and plush velvet seating arrangements in moody shades.

For the children’s table, each place setting showcased the cutest mix of items beginning with a treasure map for the place mat, a golden skull-and-crossed-bones plate, bullion-rimmed glasses, and black linen napkins with a gold anchor napkin holder. Miniature white chiviari chairs each had a pirate hat dangling from the back as a guest favor. I have to say, it was fun to build the layers of this table – the colors and textures gave the table a lovely dimension. Crackled-glass candleholders, “gold” coin booty, and other pirate details were sprinkled across the tablescape to help bring the theme to life for the little ones.

A backdrop that read: “Oh Ship! Captain Logan’s 3rd Birthday” was framed by balloons garlands crafted by The Balloon Co. The table was made complete with other decorations including gold-teethed skulls, treasure chests, and “jewelry.” Sarah and her husband dressed in theme, as did many of the guests in attendance. Even a live Jack Sparrow stopped in to say hello, which was a highlight for the children! When it was time to sing “Happy Birthday,” Sarah presented a topsy-turvy cake that had been frosted in a treasure map and bedecked with a sword, gold coins, and a skull. In addition to slices of cake, guests savored tasty churros from Churro Service. The birthday boy and his friends also enjoyed playing corn hole together on the customized set we created, as well as a painting activity led by Little Artist party where they painted either a pirate ship, shark, or mermaid. Loved this party and wish we could do it arrr-gain!
