MILAWOOD - A Vintage California Themed 1st Birthday
Paloma had a distinct vision in mind when hiring us to plan and design her daughter Mila’s first birthday party. It would be an especially important day for the family because Mila would also be receiving her first sacrament of baptism prior to the fun-filled celebration. Paloma described a mix of quintessential vintage-California elements, which would highlight bits of Old Hollywood and a sprinkle of Palm Springs.
To introduce the theme, we created custom artwork for her invitations with photos of Mila within the background of the letters of “Milawood.” This same motif was on full display at the party as well, by way of a 16-foot backdrop. A large fuchsia balloon installation framed the backdrop, and verdure was placed about, making the area a perfect photo opportunity for loved ones.
The entryway was filled with bright pink loose balloons, trees, and florals in blush, yellow, and cream. A teal beach cruiser with a basket filled with florals was a favorite amongst guests! It was such a fun way to enter the space.
Tablescapes were fun and bright! Hairpin tables – in both adult and children’s sizes – were situated lengthwise and bedecked with succulents, pink roses, greenery, and plastic pink flamingos. When creating a gorgeous space, one must not forget great chairs! We opted for a variety of light pink bucket chairs and retro metal versions for the kids’ tables. Their settings also boasted darling disposable flamingo plates and drink ware, and were topped off with personalized iced cookies. For grownup tables, fuller arrangements of florals were placed in light-blue vases, white china, canary-yellow linen napkins, and sleek golden cutlery.
For parents, mariachis played lively music and the Happen Booth was available for interactive photos. Meanwhile, the little ones were going crazy with excitement playing corn hole using the custom-designed set we created, participating in the bubble show, getting their faces painted, and even enjoying a live reptile show. See some of the great pictures of the kids with snakes, spiders, lizards, and a tortoise!
After the delicious Mexican fare – including quesadillas, tacos, and corn – an ice cream truck arrived. Guests were able to choose anything they’d like from the array of choices. Attendees also enjoyed slices of the birthday cake. The three-tiered confection was beautiful, with each layer displaying its own amazing artwork. Mila looked like she loved the cake, making the day end just as sweet as it began!
